Alessandro Filipponi works in the economic department of Confindustria Ceramica, the Italian association of ceramic materials, focusing mainly on topics related to standardization and sustainability.

He actively contributes to international and European standardization activities related to ceramic materials and he currently serves as Convenor of ISO/TC189 WG4 on thin ceramic tiles and as project leader for the development of a technical standard on multilayer ceramic tiles.

He graduated with honors in Geology from the University of Bologna and later obtained a PhD in Materials Engineering from the same institution. Additionally, he holds a second-level Master's degree (with honors) in Business and Ceramic Technology from the University of Modena and Reggio-Emilia.
